Job Market Reality Check: February 2026

The job market data is in, and once again, the signals don’t match.

If you’re feeling unsure about what’s actually happening, you’re not alone.

Let’s take a look at what the reports say, and what they don’t.

Conflicting data is not new. Interpreting it is what matters.

What the February 2026 Employment Data Shows

The ADP Report

According to ADP, 63K jobs were added in February.

But the details matter.

58K of those jobs came from small firms with 1 to 19 employees

58K jobs were added in education and health services

This tells us that growth is concentrated in very specific areas of the economy.

The BLS Report

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a very different outcome.

92K jobs were lost in February

Declines were seen in:

  • Healthcare

  • Information

  • Federal employment

There is an important exception.

The healthcare decline was heavily influenced by Kaiser strikes in California and Hawaii, which are considered temporary disruptions rather than long-term trends.

Why the Reports Don’t Match

Once again, the major reports are not aligned.

Different methodologies. Different data sources. Different conclusions.

The Reality Check

The data may not agree. The headlines may shift week to week.
